Le Mystère Henri Pick
Directed by Rémi Bezançon
Synopsis
In a bizarre Breton library that collects rejected, never published manuscripts, a young editor discovers a novel that she considers a masterpiece. It was written by a certain Henri Pick, a cook who died two years earlier and who, according to his widow, had never read a book in his life or written anything but a shopping list... Did he have a secret life? When the book becomes a huge best-seller, Jean- Michel Rouche, a skeptical and stubborn literary critic, teams up with Joséphine, Pick’s daughter, to unravel the mystery.

Camille Cottin I’d die for you

Review by Pauline ✨ ★★★★
poetic and almost magical in a way only french movies can be. i loved it from start to finish, and didn't want it to end. Camille Cottin is amazing (10/10 would die for her), and i'm very very happy her and Luchini got to act together again; their scenes in Dix Pour Cent were amazing and i was hoping they would do something else together.
[THIS MIGHT BE A BIT OF A SPOILER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL]
the only downside, for me, is that i'm not a fan of the resolution of the mystery. i feel like the person who wrote the book is the least interesting character they could have gone with, and, most of all, a character i hated. despite that, it was smart and made sense, so i didn't hate it either. -

dedico essas subestimadas cinco estrelas, especialmente, à M.

It reminded me of the course a mystery by Claude Chabrol would take, however without the playfulness, wit and craft I associate with such a director. It is fun at times, but it felt a bit underwhelming with the easy humour. The actors are quite good nonetheless, and I believe they've done a fine job with their characters.

------
Almost all French films just have this air of Frenchness about them and there's literally no other way to put it than 'that's so French.' This is the perfect example of the Frenchiest of French films and I loved it. Utterly charming and genuinely funny, it offers a twist on the classic 'whodunnit' but instead of murder, we have literature.

I wish I was in quarantine with Fabrice Luchini.. i feel like he knows everything, he’s fascinating. I know that’s weird but he’s in my top 10 favorite French actors

The only effect this movie had on me is that now I want to live in Bretagne

Review by Reid ★★★½
The ending reveal was kinda boring and disappointing, and I hated the forced sexual tension between Luchini’s very unappealing character and (the iconic) Camille Cottin’s much more appealing character. The movie itself was fine though, I liked the conceit of the literary whodunit, and small town Brittany is a very nice setting
